He was the one who triggered the Livonian war which resulted in the loss of Livonia and Ingria. He was an able diplomat and also was the founder of Russia’s first publishing house. He was very popular among Russian commoners but the people of Novgorod never supported him because of the massacre of Novgorod. The main and important characteristics that went best for Russia during his rule were Russia made a lot of territorial expansion, there was also Tsarist Autocracy and Persecution of Boyars.
