The Spanish invasion of Chile and the majority of Latin America changed its history. The Spanish rule exploited the country during the mercantilist era. Independence came in 1844 and with it, economic and political stability.

Chile started to sell copper and nitrate, and copper is still the foundation of the Chilean economy. The beginning of the 20th century came with the economic crisis for Chile, the demand for mineral nitrates fell. The Great Depression did not help the country either.

Chilean economy got better with WWII with a higher demand for copper. The 70s were a difficult period for Chile, Pinochet was a brutal dictator, he widespread repression, torture and murder, it was only in the early 80s that democracy returned to the country, with it came free market system, many state-owned firms were sold, privatizations continued.

Today, with political stability, Chile is one of the fourty most developed countries in the world, with a robust economy.

Which of the following was an indicator of economic instability leading to the Great Depression
Oxana [17]

Great Depression was mostly experienced by most of the countries in the period of 1930. It had demoralizing effects on the economy by dropping levels of the Gross Domestic Product. The personal income, tax revenue had hit the lowest level in the nation.

Giving Over extension of loans by the banks in order to cope the depression was the erroneous federal policy at the time of depression. It also resulted in various other impacts such as people were unable to pay off the loans. This financial disruption made the banks to close.

This led to stocking of money by the people that resulted in the stagnation of the money flow and the loss of confidence to lend and borrow money. This also reduced the value of money causing disequilibrium in the economy.

What beliefs do you think may have motivated Las Casas to take the stand that he does?
Nina [5.8K]

Answer:

He was relevant in defending indigenous peoples in Latin America.

The defense assumes that they are free and in their freedom enjoy the natural right.

Explanation:

In the middle of the year 1502-1510 - Friar Bartolomeu de Las Casas leaves for America where he lands with twelve other friars. In this period, Spain is at the beginning of an empire of magnificence, as discussed above, the Arabs are being expelled by the Catholic kings.

Arriving in the land of the natives, the friar Las Casas is enchanted by the kind reception of the Indigenous, but little by little, Bartolomeu realizes the dark side of the Spaniards subsidized only by the greed of gold and silver or other means that could generate precious goods. In the midst of the shadows of greed, however, is a young man full of vitality and with a right intention to evangelize the natives.

The defense assumes that they are free and in their freedom enjoy natural law.

From his point of view, Las Casas would see exceptional indigenous docility as a way of showing human possibilities and qualities, moving from the wild to the civilized way, so evangelizing in the eyes of the religious would not be a process of domination but rather a means of domination. for liberation. In other words, the interplay between two cultures or between two peoples would bring the sum of vast and ennobling experiences to both sides. Therefore, the exchange of experiences would only be possible if there was a mutual adherence of respect, dialogue and otherness that would converge on justice.
