Write an equation for the line that is parallel to the given line and passes through the given point Y= 1/2 x -8

If the line is parallel to the given line, it would have the same slope so we would have y=(1/2)x +b so far. Now to find out what b is, we would plug in the given point so the equation would be -17=(1/2)(-6)+b. We can then simplify this, making -14=b. The equation is y=(1/2)x-14

There are 4 jacks in a standard deck of 52 playing cards. If patricia selects a card at random, what is the probability that it
sammy [17]

Answer:

(C) 1/13

Step-by-step explanation:

Since, In a pack of 52 playing cards, there are 4 jacks in total.

If patricia selects a card at random, then the probability that it will be a jack will be:

Probability it is a jack=\frac{Total number of jacks}{Total number of cards}

=\frac{4}{52}

=\frac{1}{13}

Which is the required probability.

If you have 186 pencils, how many how many will each person get in a class that has 23 students?
Brut [27]

Answer:

8

Step-by-step explanation:

total number of pencils = 186

number of students = 23

number of pencils each student gets = number of pencils ÷ number of pencils

=186/23

Can somebody pls tell me the solution I’m rlly stuck. I’ll give you points pls help.
WINSTONCH [101]

Answer:

(4,-1)

Step-by-step explanation:

You can solve this system of equations in a couple of different ways, but I'm going to use the elimination method. If you're solving a system of equations using elimination, you want to have one variable cancel out. In this case, we don't have to change anything because -3y and 3y will already cancel out if we add the two equations together. You can both add or subtract, but it's easiest to add in this case. The equation will be set up like this: 2x-3y=11

                                                                                                      +  7x+3y=25

                                                                                                         --------------

After you add them together, you should get 9x=36, which you can solve by dividing both sides by 9. Then, you'll get x=4. This is your x-coordinate. Next, you want to get your y-coordinate, so you can substitute 4 into one of the two equations for x and solve for y. This will get you -1 for y. I'd also recommend checking your answer. Hope this was helpful! :)

What two numbers multiply by 25 but adds up to 6
Natalka [10]
No two intergers can solve this problem. If you're not in Algebra II yet, the answer is probably "none."

Just look at the factor pairs of 25:
1 × 25
-1 × 25
5 × 5
-5 × -5
Clearly none of those can add up to 6.

If you want the more complex answer, I'll show you how here. If you don't understand why it doesn't work, that's okay. I just want you to see that there's not an actual answer to the problem.

a+b = 6
a = 6-b
ab = 25
(6-b)b = 25
6b -b² = 25
-b² + 6b = 25
b² -6b = -25
Factor by splitting the middle.
Half of -6 is -3, (-3)² = 9. Add this to each side.
b² -6b + 9 = -16
Factor the perfect square trinomial.
(b-3)² = -16
Take the square root of each side.
b-3 = 4i
b = 3+4i
a+b = 6
a+3+4i = 6
a= 3-4i
(The "i" stands for an imaginary number, specifically, the square root of -1.)
