Write the equation in slope intercept form that passes through (-5,10) and (2,4)
balu736 [363]

Answer:

\displaystyle y = -\frac{6}{7}x + 5\frac{5}{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

First, find the <em>rate of change</em> [<em>slope</em>]:

\displaystyle \frac{-y_1 + y_2}{-x_1 + x_2} = m \\ \\ \frac{-10 + 4}{5 + 2} = -\frac{6}{7}

Now plug these coordinates into the Slope-Intercept Formula. It does not matter which ordered pair you choose:

4 = −6⁄7[2] + b

−1 5⁄7

\displaystyle 5\frac{5}{7} = b \\ \\ y = -\frac{6}{7}x + 5\frac{5}{7}

_______________________________________________

10 = −6⁄7[−5] + b

4 2⁄7

\displaystyle 5\frac{5}{7} = b \\ \\ y = -\frac{6}{7}x + 5\frac{5}{7}

** You see? I told you it did not matter which ordered pair you choose because you will ALWAYS get the exact same result.

I am joyous to assist you anytime.

(!!WORD PROBLEM!!)
Ivan

Answer: a package of cookies cost $ 5 and each bag of chips cost $5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the cost of a package of  cookies and y represent the cost of a bap of chips ,then from the first statement :

4x + 4y = 40

dividing through by 4 , we have

x + y = 10 ........................... equation 1

From the second statement

3x + 5y = 40  ..................... equation 2

Solving the system of linear equation by substitution method , from equation 1 , make x the subject of the formula , that is

x = 10 - y ................... equation 3

substitute x = 10 - y into equation 2 , we have :

3 (10 - y ) + 5y = 40

30 - 3y + 5y = 40

30 + 2y = 40

subtract 30 from both sides

2y = 40 -30

2y = 10

y = 5

substitute y = 5 into equation 3 , equation 3 becomes

x = 10 - 5

x = 5

Therefore ; a package of cookies cost $ 5 and each bag of chips cost $5

Describe how to write 3x+2y=12 in function notation.assume that y represent the dependent variable.
GarryVolchara [31]
To write this function in function notation all you would need to do is rearrange the equation for y.

3x + 2y = 12

3x - 3x + 2y = 12 - 3x

2y = 12 - 3x

2y/2 = 12/2 - 3x/2

Y = 6 - 3/2 X or

Y = -3/2 X + 6.
