Dividing the total length of observed tissues by number of cells in the tissue

Explanation:

It is not easy to measure the size of individual cells.In biology laboratories, the size of the cell is usually measured by doing back calculations.  

For instance -  

A tissue being observed under a microscope has size of 10 mm and it contains 100 cells arranged linearly.  

Then, the size of one cell can be determined by dividing the total length of the tissue by number of cells.  

Thus, size of one cell is equal to  

\frac{10}{100} \\= 0.1 mm

To figure the length<span> of one </span>cell<span>, divide the number of </span>cells<span> that cross the diameter of the field of view into the diameter of the field of view. For example the diameter of the field is 5 mm and you </span>estimate<span> that 50 </span>cells<span> laid end to end would cross the diameter, then 5 mm/50 </span>cells<span> = 0.1mm/</span>cell<span>.</span>
