How did some American Indian nations seek to assimilate into white American culture in the 1800s?
Katarina [22]

Answer: They moved onto American Indian reservations.

In that time, colonists believed that if Native Americans were exposed to United States values and customs they would be able to transform the local's culture and merge it with their own to create what they believed to be 'more civilized' societies of Native Americans.

It was through the creation of '<em>native american boarding schools' </em>that the colonists managed to recondition native children and youth to their customs, by forbidding their religious practices, languages and tribal traditions and forcing them to practice their own religious beliefs.

Explain why the Arabs felt betrayed by the British after British occupation of Palestine.
aliya0001 [1]

The Arabs felt betrayed when the British occupied Palestine after WWI because<u> they had been </u><u>promised independence.</u>

During WWI:

  • The British and French encouraged Arabs to rebel against the Ottoman empire
  • The British and French promised the Arabs independence in exchange for their support

When the war was over and the Arabs had fulfilled their side of the bargain, the British and French instead occupied Arab lands such as Palestine. This led to the Arabs being betrayed as they simply got new masters instead of independence.

In conclusion, the Arabs felt betrayed because the British had renegaded on a promise.

Answer:

The third sentence is a clear example of the concept of social contract.

Explanation:

The idea of social contract became important during the Enlightenment because it established that the power lies in the people and not in the figurehead of government.  The French writer Rousseau is one of the Enlightenment thinkers that popularized the term.  This concept goes on to explain that if the government is not serving its people and is not acting in the people's best interest, then the people have the right to remove it and place a new government in its place.  This can clearly be seen in the third sentence.
