12x-23+2x=-5

combine the like terms (x) so,

12x+2x-23=-5

so, this will give you: 14x-23=-5

now, remove the numbers

so, 14x=-5+23

this will give you : 14x+18

x =  \frac{18}{14}

x = 1.285714286
