Analyse how the representation of marginalised groups in ‘The Outsiders’ by S.E Hinton reflects the social context of its time

English

Ghella [55]4 years ago

The social context that is represented in “The Outsiders”, is relevant to its time, as the author, Susan Eloise Hinton, herself faced social degradation in her high school class.

Explanation:

The novel is about the clashes between the lesser privileged section of the community and the higher orders of the community. The clashes are about the superiority of each section of society and the rules that govern the same.

It is also about friendships made and broken for the fear of being hurt or being let down, about love and fear between the two classes, and finally about how at the end of all, it does not make sense to maintain so much of enemy as each person differs in their circumstances.

The author is young and a female faced similar clashes in her times at the time of writing her book. She was also asked to change her name to be gender-neutral to appeal more to the crowd.

These pointer show and reflect the relevance of the marginalized groups of the contextual times.

In scene 5 how and why does nurses behavior contrast with or contradict her earlier behavior? How does this affect Juliet? Expla
Misha Larkins [42]

The nurse's behavior changes based on a change in the tension of the story.

We can arrive at this answer because:

 • The nurse was someone who raised Juliet since she was a baby.
 • The nurse cares about Juliet a lot and wants her to be safe and happy.
 • In this case, the nurse's behavior is always positive to the things Juliet wants.
 • However, when there is a change of tension in the story and Juliet's happiness is put at risk, the nurse changes her behavior and is opposed to these situations.

An example of this can be seen when the nurse encourages Juliet to marry Parris and abandon the feelings she has about Romeo. She behaves this way because she thinks Romeo will make Juliet unhappy and put her in danger.

As you have not informed the act to which this question refers, I can't provide a specific answer, but I hope that the information above can help you.
