Children and adolescents need approximately eight to nine hours of uninterrupted sleep every night to be at their best during th

e day. When they get even one hour less, they develop what is called a sleep debt. If this sleep debt becomes too substantial, children can become sleepy when they should be alert, which interferes with normal activities and reduces their ability to function properly. The lack of sleep can even increase the likelihood that children and adolescents might receive some form of accidental injury due to a slower reaction time or an inability to completely control their motor skills.
Adolescents who do not get enough sleep also perform poorly in school. Additionally, students who are tired suffer from memory lapses, behavior problems, and mood swings. They can also be viewed as either overactive and restless or lazy and sluggish. Either way, adolescents cannot perform to their fullest academic potential if they have not received the proper amount of sleep.

If Ana had known the answer, she (raise) her hand. Mr. Diaz (be) on time to work, if he had taken the bus. If Angela hadn't brou
stellarik [79]

Answer:

1. I Ana had known the answer, she would have raised her hand.

2. Mr. Diaz would have been on time to work if he had taken the bus.

3. If Angela hadn't brought a jacket, Luis would have given her his coat.

4. Sofia would have bought a new cell phone if she had had enough money.

5. If Mrs. Garza had known how cold it was outside, she would have worn a coat.

6. If Adriana had realized how tired she was, she wouldn't have stayed out so late.

7. If Javier had checked his watch, he would have known how late it was.

8. If we had known how late the bus was going to be, we wouldn't have waited for it.

Explanation:

This question requires knowledge about the third conditional.

The third conditional is used in English to express hypothetical situations in the past. In other words, we are imagining possibilities about something that has already happened. For example, suppose you forgot to bring some money with you. Because of that, you weren't able to buy a jacket you saw that was on sale. You can imagine how things would have been: "If I had brought some money, I would have bought that jacket."

The structure of the third conditional is the following:

if + had (not) + past participle, would/could/might (not) + have + past participle

The if clause will not necessarily be the first one every time. Take a look at the examples below:

- She would have told you if she had known how important it was to you.

- If you had talked to me about it, we could have found a better way to do it.

- If Mario hadn't moved away, he and Dana would have gotten married.

How does Loretta convey Max’s father? What inference can be made about Kevin’s reaction to this information?
OlgaM077 [116]

Loretta, despite her alcoholism and subservience to Iggy, a gang boss, is sympathetic towards Max because of his low station in life. At first, she is only concerned with keeping herself safe first from Iggy's anger and then from Kenny Kane, Max's father, who is violent and bad-tempered. When Loretta discovers that Kenny is keeping Max tied up, she tries to help him escape:

"Keeping your own kid tied up, it ain't right. He ain't the man I thought I remembered, that's for sure."

Loretta thought that she remembered Kenny being a better man, but is shocked out of her obedience by this cruel act. She still has some humanity, despite the abuse she suffers from Iggy and Kenny, and so she tries to redeem herself in a small way by helping Max. Her actions are selfless and she almost dies for standing up to Kenny.
