Answer:

  see the second attachment

Step-by-step explanation:

You're being asked to draw a histogram of the frequency of digits in the first 100 digits of pi. If you were looking only at the first 6 digits, 3.14159, you would see that the digit 1 appears twice, the digits 3, 4, 5, and 9 appear once each, and the remaining digits don't appear at all. The graph would show points (1, 2), (3, 1), (4, 1), (5, 1), (9, 1) and (0, 0), (2, 0), (6, 0), (7, 0), (8, 0).

One way to draw the histogram is to simply mark the next higher bar on the graph each time you encounter a digit as you read the number. The marks on the first attachment show what the graph would look like after the first 6 digits are accounted for.

The graph can be drawn several ways. One is to make it a bar graph, with a vertical bar at each position, the height of which is the number of times the digit appears in the number given. The second attachment simply marks where the top of such a bar would be.

In the first 100 digits of pi, the digit 9 appears 13 times, the most of any digit.

___

For the sum of digits, you can add up the digits as you go, or you can multiply the digit's value by the number of times it appears, and total those products. I find that easier than doing 99 sums.

Answer:

Q2 2010

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of quarters = x

Samsung increases by 6 each quarter.

Apple decreases by 1 each quarter.

Samsung

L = a + (x - 1)*6

a = 1

L = 1 + (x - 1)*6

Apple

L = a - (x - 1)*1

a = 53

L = 53 - (x - 1)*1

Now the problem is how many quarters go by until they meet?

1 + (x - 1)*6 = 53 - (x - 1)                         Remove the brackets

1 + 6x - 6 = 53 - x + 1                             Combine like terms on both sides.

-5 + 6x = 54 - x                                     Add 5 to both sides

6x = 59 - x                                              Add x to both sides

7x =  59

x = 59/7 = 8 3/7

So sometime in the 8th quarter from zero they will be equal. At the end of the quarter, Samsung will be greater than Apple

So the answer should be 4 quarters from Q2 2009 or Q2 2010

In the figure, x is an exterior angle to triangle ABC. (a) Explain why x is equal to the sum of the measures of the two nonadjac
earnstyle [38]

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

a) See Discussion below

b) Don't know what "m" refers to

Discussion:

Part a)

A triangle contains 180 degrees.

A + B + C = 180   (*)

where A is the angle inside the triangle.

From the diagram

B +C =   62 + 78 = 140

Substituting this in (*) gives

A + (140) = 180      => subtract 140 from both sides

A = 180 - 140 = 40

Now a line has 180 degrees so x + A = 180. But A = 40 (shown above) so x+ 40 = 180, or x = 140. That is, x  = 140 - the sum of the measures of the two nonadjacent interior angles

Part b)

I can't answer this part is it is unclear what "m" refers to. Sorry.

Thank you,

MrB
