The correct answer to this open question is the following.

U.S citizens felt that President Roosevelt´s decision to support a Panamanian revolt against Columbia was the right thing to do to help Panama get its Independence and to secure the United States' interests in the region. Of course, Colombian citizens felt angry about this decision because Panama belonged to Colombia at that time, and it was a strategic place for trade and economy.

Panama got its independence from Colombia on November 3, 1903. The Panama Channel COmpany had supported the government of Panama, and this economic and political interest made the government of the United States support the Panamanian leaders. US President Theodore Roosevelt directly supported the rebels in Panama and order to send a US warship called "Nashville" to the coasts of Panama.

What were the short-term and long-term results of the "jim crow" system in the south? why was the sharecropping system so hard t
KengaRu [80]

The short-term effects of Jim Crow Laws in the south were: Legal codes of segregation, enacted literacy requirements, voter-registration laws, poll taxes.

The long-term effects were: Segregation until the late 20th century, allowed for racial injustices and prejudices to remain and thrive, despite the 14th amendment.

The sharecropping system was so hard to overcome because it was economically confined, controlled by landlords and kept in debt.

African Americans were worse off after civil war. They were still treated as inhuman and undeserving of basic rights, especially in the deep south, the 14th and 15th amendments were not upheld and the enforcement of Jim Crow laws worsened the situation. Even though the country was moving in the right direction, it was a long time before quality of life really improved for most African Americans.
