She used a shifting tone to convey the changes that Mrs. Mallard have gone through. She weeps immediately "with sudden, wild abandonment" , she even used the phrase storm of grief, and suspension of thought to show how sad and shocked she was. She showed how her thought process is changing. Using phrases such as "her pulses beat fast" and her eyes become "clean and bright". Proving that she is free. She didn't stay depressed. That's how she has done it.
Chopin’s diction and imagery in lines 80-84 contributed to her characterization of a transformed Mr. Mallard in that despite of continuing to feel depressed and sad for the death of her husband, her true feeling was that she was happy for being free from him. The excerpt refers to the freedom she felt when “countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves.” The other part says “The notes of a distant song which some one was singing reached her faintly”. Those are expressions of freedom and happiness. Mrs. Mallard changes can be noted in phrases like “her eyes become clean and dry”.
