Outbreak in religious wars in the Holy Roman Empire and France. The wars spanned much of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. These included the Thirty Years War. Which devastated the region. Above all it led to the flowering of dozens of Protestant sects that changed modern Christianity.

All the causes of the war had disappeared with the end of the war between Britain and France and with the destruction of the power of Indians to block American expansion into the Northwest.
