At the time radio was a trusted source of information and was interpreted by many listeners as being a true account of a Martian invasion on Earth. The literary work was interpreted as a science fiction narrative, whereas the dramatized radio broadcast was interpreted as true live events. The manner in which the narrative is delivered, increases the level of panic and drama for the listener compared to the reader.
