She was canonized due to her role in the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years' War, which was said to have been divinely inspired. Joan claimed to have seen visions of the Archangel Michael, Saint Margaret and Saint Catherine of Alexandria instructing her to participate in the war. She was a symbol of unity in France and helped boost the morale of the people. However, she was later captured by the British and put on trial. She was burned at the stake when she was around nineteen years of age.
