The First Treaty of Fort Laramie was “signed”, it established tribal borders in return for 50 thousand dollars annual payments for 50 years. Settlers also promised not to interfere in Indians lives.

The short-term effect was that The First Treaty of Fort Laramie was broken because of government corruption, the payments that were agreed never reached the tribes and some reservations were not respected. Settlers went forward forced Indian tribes out of their land.
The long term effect was that Native American tribes were pushed and pushed “out of the way” until they were completely destroyed and killed sometimes.
For the settlers, those methods were successful because they did not fulfill their agreements which permitted them to get more land and have more money.
