Why was the killing of Harrison Bergeron so significant? Did Harrison have to die for the sake of the society?

English

It was significant because it shows that we all want to be equal but we can't. The definition of equality is different amongst people. Harrison Bergeron was introducing a new form of equality where everyone could be equal in their own way, shape and form. Handicaps were put in because competition=inequality. Harrison Bergeron questioned that by taking off his handi-cap. It was significant because it showed how we and the people in the story want equality but aren't quite sure about it. In the story, Harrison did have to die for the sake of society. If he had continued, then society would "fall apart" and everyone will be "inequal." These are the society's terms in the story and they abide by that. So in their eyes, yes he had to die or everyone else will follow suit. The idea of a new equal society was brought upon by Harrison, but the rest of the citizens will not be able to resist the higher-ups. Hope this helps!

If the writer paraphrases an opinion that she has read rather than reached independently, she is not required to cite the source
andrezito [222]
This statement is false.
Any time a writer paraphrases something he or she read somewhere, it means that he or she is paraphrasing somebody else's words, which means that person has to be credited for it. If the writer reached an opinion independently, then they wouldn't have to cite the source, but otherwise, they do, if they want to avoid plagiarism.
