Here a given parent is using these methods in order to develop racism in his child. Let’s look at the specific examples.  

• Father receives a call from the school and the teacher tells him that his daughter called her classmate a ‘N-word' when they had an argument over the lab experiment results. Though the director expects him to take measures in order to prevent instances of such behavior in the future, the father gives his daughter extra pocket money and tells that she did the right thing. This is an example of positive reinforcement because an individual (daughter) is presented with something valuable (positive) in order to reinforce her behavior.

• Daughter lets a new boy in her class, who is an African-American and had just moved to town with his parents, to walk her home. She likes him and thinks he is different. The father who arrived home earlier than expected sees them talking not far from the house. When the daughter comes inside, the father tells her that it is disgusting and she should never even talk to this boy. He tells the daughter that now she is not allowed to go to her friend’s party next Saturday and will stay grounded all weekend. This is an example of negative punishment because here an individual is deprived (hence negative) of something valuable in order to stop displaying certain behavior.
