This region became part of the Manchu Qing dynasty in the 18th century and then the People's Republic of China in 1949. It has a 2500 year history so was controlled by many dynastys throughout its history but these are the most recent dynastys and nations which governed it.

The names by which it was termed include Altishahr and Uyghur was known to be its historical name.</u> During the Han dynasty, Xinjiang was known as Xiyu in Chinese Language.  and the meaning of that name was western regions and between the period of 2nd century BCE as well as 2nd century CE and Xiyu Protectorate was established in the Han Dynasty and that was done  for the security of the routes which were profitable. This led to the Silk route. During the initial beginning of Han Dynasty, That region was Subservient of Xiongnu were powerful nomadic people and they were known to have their base in Modern Mongolia <u>During the start of 2nd century BC, the Han dynasty was in readiness in order to initiate a war against Xiongnu when their emperor dispatched the explorer to the mysterious kingdoms which were there in the west and wanted to form an alliance with the Yuzehi people in order to fight against Xiongnu. </u>
