Mathematics

Given data set is {1, 1.12, 4, 1.28, 4.1, 5.3}

Step 1: Finding Mean.

Mean = (1 + 1.12 + 4 + 1.28 + 4.1 + 5.3)/6 = 16.8/6 = 2.8

Step 2: Finding square of difference between mean and data points.

(1 - 2.8)², (1.12 - 2.8)², (4 - 2.8)², (1.28 - 2.8)², (4.1 - 2.8)², (5.3 - 2.8)²

3.24, 2.8224, 1.44, 2.3104, 1.69, 6.25

Step 3: Finding Mean of above numbers (also called variance).

Variance = (3.24 + 2.8224 + 1.44 + 2.3104 + 1.69 + 6.25)/6 = 17.7528/6 = 2.9588

Step 4: Finding square-root of variance (also called standard deviation).

Standard Deviation = \sqrt{2.9588} = 1.720116275 \approx 1.7

Hence, option D is correct, i.e. Standard Deviation = 1.7

1, 1.12, 4, 1.28, 4.1, 5.3

To find standard deviation, first we have to find the mean of the data set.

To find mean we have to add them and divide it by the number of terms given. Here 6 numbers given.

Mean = (1+ 1.12 + 4 + 1.28 + 4.1 + 5.3)/6 = 16.8 / 6 = 2.8

Now we have to subtract the mean from each number and have to find square of it.

(1- 2.8)² = (-1.8)² = 3.24

(1.12-2.8)² = (-1.68)² = 2.8224

(4-2.8)² = (1.2)² = 1.44

(1.28 -2.8)² = (-1.52)² = 2.3104

(4.1 - 2.8)² = (1.3)² = 1.69

(5.3 - 2.8)² = (2.5)² = 6.25

Now we have to add them all.

3.24 + 2.8224 + 1.44+ 2.3104 + 1.69 + 6.25 = 17.7528

Now to get standard deviation we have to divide it by total number of terms which is 6 here and then have to find square root of it.

So, standard deviation =√[ (17.7528) / 6] =√(2.9588) = 1.720116

So the required answer is, standard deviation = 1.7 ( approximately to the nearest tenth)

The correct option is D.

At the football game, 4 hamburgers and 6 soft drinks cost $34, and 4 hamburgers and 3 soft drinks cost $25. Which two equations
olga_2 [115]

Answer:

4x+6y=34\\\\4x+3y=25

Step-by-step explanation:

Let be "x" the cost in dollars of a hamburger and "y" the cost in dollars of a soft drink.

The cost of 4 hamburguers can be represented with this expression:

4x

And the cost of 6 soft drinks can be represented with this expression:

6y

Since the total cost for 4 hamburgers and 6 soft drinks is $34, you can write the following equation:

4x+6y=34 [Equation 1]

The following expression represents the the cost of 3 soft drinks:

3y

According to the information given in the exercise, the total cost for 4 hamburgers and 3 soft drinks is $25. Then, the equation that represents this is:

4x+3y=25 [Equation 2]

Therefore, the Equation 1 and the Equation 2 can be used to determine the price of a hamburger and the price of a soft drink

In a certain year, there were 92 female officials in Congress, which is comprised of the House of Representatives and the Senate
crimeas [40]

Answer:

There are 78 female members of the House of Representatives and 14 female members of the Senate.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let h equal the amount of female members of the House of Representatives and s equal the amount of female members in the Senate.

Since the amount of female officials in Congress is 92, and is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate, we can represent this as the equation h+s=92

Since there are 64 more female members in the House of Representatives than female Senators, the senators would need 64 more female members to have the same amount as the House of Representatives. We can represent this as h=s+64.

Substituting, we get s+64+s=92, which simplifies to 2s+64=92. Subtracting 64 from both sides, we get 2s=28, which equals to s=14. There are 14 female senators. Substituting back into h+s=92, 14+s=92, and s=78. Therefore, there are 78 female members of the House of Representatives and 14 female members of the Senate.
