2. Due to problems in his country, he had to flee for a decade

After the 1973 Uruguayan coup d'état, he resigns his position at the university, and due to his political stand, has to leave Uruguay, living in exile, first going to Buenos Aires, Argentina , then Perú, Cuba, and finally he settled in Madrid, Spain. He spent over 10 years away from Uruguay, only returning on March 1985

3. His exile was an inspiration source for many of his works.
