The main reason why the Allies agreeh to fight until the Axis Powers surrendered unconditionally, which possibly prolonged the war, is because anything short of an unconditional surrender would leave room for the Axis to re-mobilize.

Well the other guys answer is technically right their a few more details to it. The league of nations was also another attempt to stop further wars between various groups in the world. They didn't want another Holocaust or world war to happen so it made it that all nations would turn on one nation or nations if they did go rogue and attack.

Well in the case of the Mongols for example, being nomadic meant that their armies were highly mobile and adaptable. Conquests and long distance travel to conquer a civilization wasn't as difficult because it suited their nomadic lifestyle. They often adapted certain military technologies from the civilizations they conquered as well.
