When you are writing an essay or other kind of paper, you must write a citation for almost every single piece of information you quote. However, if you are using a piece of information, especially refering to pop culture icons or any event or incident that you consider is common knowledge and that your audience will know it too, you do not need a citation, just present the piece of information and contextualize it in the essay.
