The real answer  <em>A Jean-ius.</em> Levi Strauss is the founder the first company of blue jeans. In 1847 he went to New York from his home country, Germany, to join on dry goods wholesale business his family had. When California Gold Rush began, he decided to go there and open a branch of the family business in San Francisco in 1853. He became a famous figure in the city being lively in the business and cultural life of San Francisco. Strauss got a letter from one of his costumers, Jacob Davis in 1872, in which he told him about the innovative way he was making pants from duck and denim. To make them stronger Davis used copper rivets. He also wanted to patent the idea of fascinating the clothing and because he did not have enough money for patent application Davis was asking Strauss to be his business partner and to share the costs. Strauss agreed and on May 20, 1873 the full US Patent No. 139121 was arranged in the name of Jacob W. Davis and Levi Strauss and Company. That was the birthday of the blue jeans.
