  The reason of the revolts was the dissatisfaction the Greeks had towards the Persian tyrants who ruled them. The revolt was supported by troops from Athens and Eretria. At first, they captured and burnt Sardis, an important city of the Persian Empire. But when the troops were returning from there the Persian troops followed them and defeated them.

  After that, there were two major defeats of the Greek troops and ended the rebellion.
