Read the excerpt from a short story. I descended the steps to the cellar, reminding myself that the smell of dirt was not to be

feared. The earthen walls shone with moisture, and the rows of jarred fruit gleamed. I loathed these errands and doubted my ability to discern a peach from a pear in the dim light. I held a jar inches from my eyes and concluded it was some undesirable green—beans or peas—to be retrieved at a later date. As I mused, something crept stealthily from the shadows, and pounced unexpectedly from the summer’s stash. Which best describes the tone of the excerpt?

Answer: I would argue that the tone produces unease and uncertainty.

Explanation: I don't know if this is a multiple choice question or not, but the fact that the narrator is describing with such detail something as arguably insignificant as the type of canned food that was stored in the cellar, just to recall that all of the sudden something unexpectedly and quietly appeared from the shadows, produces a feeling of unease and uncertainty, since it is not known what will happen next. The speaker was simply musing on the jars and their contents, and on his or her ability to discern the type of canned food that they preserved, when suddenly something drastically changed the course of events. The author of this text is successful in catching the reader's attention and intriguing him.

Which of the following does a business setting call for?
JulijaS [17]
The answer is all of the above except choice 3.

In a business setting, you never want to use a detached tone. This gives the impression to your colleague/boss/etc. that you don't care and don't really want to be there. It shows that you don't see them as important and don't care about what they have to say. It won't achieve anything for you.

Could someone please describe a werewolf chasing its prey. The setting is a rainy isolated street and could you please describe
mafiozo [28]

Answer:

As i chase the dog down the street, it feels like its getting father and father away. I feel the hard concrete beneath my feet. All i hear is the sound of the rain pattering against the ground. As i run as fast as my legs can, I slowly catch up to the dog. We ran past old houses. As the lightning struck, i jumped on the dog and bit it's neck. It died instantly. AS i slowly dragged the body out of the street, I felt very hungry. I bit and scratched at the dog until his body ripped open. i ate like i haven't eaten in days. I chewed on the bones and licked the blood as if it was water. I left the dog's carcass there and walked into the dark woods. Never looking back.

olga2289 [7]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

The man that speaks those words is Sir Thomas More. Those words appear in <em>"A Man for All Seasons."</em>

English writer Robert Bolt wrote the play "A Man for All Seasons" in 1954. It first appeared as a version to the radio, and later for television. The play debuted in the Globe Theater in London, in 1960. It is based on the life of Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) an English philosopher and humanist of the Renaissance that opposed to the theology of Martin Luther and Reformation. He was sentenced to death after he rejected to take the Supremacy Oath required to swear allegiance to the Church of England.
