The holy roman emperor (Henry IV) wanted to make the church independent from secular rulers so he banned the practice of Lay Investiture. The pope (Gregory VII) excommunicated him and went to find a new emperor when Henry IV confessed to him he was a sinner and Gregory forgave him. But Henry was so butt hurt about it that he sent to roman military to kill the pope.

Why did Mecca's leaders try to prevent the spread of Muhammad's message
valentina_108 [34]

Answer:

Mecca leaders were worried about losing their political and economic power. The expansion of Islam, the new religion preached by Muhammad, contradicted traditional beliefs and practices of the Arab tribes. Its condemnation of idolatry and its monotheistic character was particularly troubling for them. The Quraysh tribe heads  in Mecca controlled the Kaaba - a key religious place still important in Islam -, and their political and religious power rested upon managing access to polytheistic shrines. So, Muhammad´s doctrine of one God - Allah - questioned their legitimacy and sociopolitical position.

Murrr4er [49]
The correct answer is that they granted economic freedoms but not political freedoms. This means that they opened up a bit and became a bit more capitalist, but political freedoms were still forbidden and people would not be able to protest certain things or say certain things out loud or speak against the government and its choices.
