This sounds like a great question to answer about the reliability of Nick as a narrator. On one hand, he seems to be a very honest character.  But, on the other hand, he will always have an innate bias based on his feeling towards certain characters and events.

Elizabeth Freeman which also known as Mum Bett was a slave of Western Massachusetts. She was abused and mistreated by her masters.  The illustration highlighted that no matter what our races, colors, and physical appearance are; we also have the right to live freely in one’s country by being not mistreated and oppressed. Mum Bett showed bravery and determination to fight for her freedom and rights, the rights to be treated well despite the positions she had. She even took legal actions and wins for it to obtain the freedom and flee from slavery.
