What is ground and why is the choice of ground important?

Ground in art is the negative space or the background of the image. The choice of ground is important because it can either make the image stand out and more visible catching the eyes of viewers or it can drown the image out possibly causing viewers to pay it no attention.

jk...A ground is a solid material built above the surface of the earth to keep the surface of the earth stady and to protect our feet from the surface  its natural effects ...ty:)im not quit sure tho but yah i think tgis is so ..pls reply to this ..tysm:)
