All this is part of basic sanitation, a set of measures that aim to preserve or modify the conditions of the environment to prevent diseases and promote health, and as a consequence of the lack of basic sanitation is the impact on the environment. Dumping untreated sewage can pollute soil, groundwater and water supplies, leading to animal death and reducing the amount of drinking water available. The damage can extend to agriculture, commerce, industry, tourism and other sectors of the economy.
