Biotechnology (generally referred to by most in the field as biotech) is the broad area of biology that involves living systems and organisms in order to create or develop products. You can also say that they use those organisms and systems to make any technological application. It can happen either using the organism and systems themselves or derivatives and modifications of them for specific uses.
