The Ohio River Valley was an important place in the French and Indian war because it was the main place coveted by England and it was here that the conflict took place mainly. Before the war, the French had control over the majority of American and Canadian land, the Ohio River Valley, was a strategic location for them to keep their dominance.

Further explanation

Located at the Canadian border, the capture of this valley would have allowed the English to regain power in this region and to drive the French out of Canada. After clashes for almost 10 years in this area, started in 1752, Canada was definitely conquered by the English armies in 1762, it was a huge defeat for the French.

Before the conflict, this valley was the property of the Iroquois Indians, allied with the French.

→ Chronology of the conflict:

 1. In 1749, the English begin to settle in this area to gradually extend their influence.
 2. Between 1752 and 1754 the French react and successfully attack the new English possessions and remain master of the region.
 3. During the year 1754, they managed to build three forts to secure their positions around Ohio River Valley. That year the English try to resist but without success, they lose all the battles. It was Benjamin Franklin, the Pennsylvania delegate, who initiated the revolt and asked help and soldiers from England. He got it.
 4. From 1755 until 1762, the English march to Canada and definitively drive the French out of these lands.

melamori03 [73]

The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1868, granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States—including former enslaved people—and guaranteed all citizens “equal protection of the laws.” One of three amendments passed during the Reconstruction era to abolish slavery and establish civil and legal rights for Black Americans, it would become the basis for many landmark Supreme Court decisions over the years.

In its later sections, the 14th Amendment authorized the federal government to punish states that violated or abridged their citizens’ right to vote by proportionally reducing the states’ representation in Congress, and mandated that anyone who “engaged in insurrection” against the United States could not hold civil, military or elected office (without the approval of two-thirds of the House and Senate).

It also upheld the national debt, but exempted federal and state governments from paying any debts incurred by the former Confederate states.
