The incentive scheme that rules sumo is intricate and extraordinarily powerful. Each wrestler maintains a ranking that affects e

very slice of life; how much money he makes, how large an entourage he carries, how much he gets to eat, sleep, and otherwise take advantage of his success. The sixty highest-ranked wrestlers in Japan, comprising the makuuchi and juryo divisions, make up the sumo elite. A wrestler near the top of this elite pyramid may earn millions and is treated like royalty. Any wrestler in the top forty earns at least $170,000 a year. The seventieth-ranked wrestler in Japan, meanwhile, earns only $15,000 a year. Life isn’t very sweet outside the elite. Low-ranked wrestlers must tend to their superiors, preparing their meals and cleaning their quarters. . . . So ranking is everything.
1. Which of the following central ideas from the paragraph is a reason that supports the claim “cheating exists because of incentive.”
A. Every wrestler has a ranking.
B. Ranking affects your diet.
C. The makuuchi and juryo divisions make up the sumo elite.
*D. Ranking is everything.
D is the answer on engenuty
2. Check the three sentences that present evidence to support the idea that “Ranking is everything.”
A. “The makuuchi and juryo divisions make up the sumo elite.”

Answer:

1. D. Based on the central idea, cheating tends to exist in Zumo wrestling because "Ranking is everything" that makes you survive as a wrestler.

2.. The three sentences to back up the claim that " Ranking is everything" are

B. “Each wrestler maintains a ranking that affects every slice of his life.”

C. “The seventieth-ranked wrestler in Japan, meanwhile, earns only $15,000 a year.”

D. “Low-ranked wrestlers must tend to their superiors.”

Explanation:

In explaining the key factor of "ranking being everything" , we look it from the fact that Zumo wrestlers in Japan are made so powerful because of the incentive that is attached to the high ranking positions in the category that are available. This ranking that comes with juicy incentives determines the life of a wrestler based on what he can eat, the number of people he can carry about, and how he can sleep well.

However, wrestlers that make up the elite are the makuuchi and juryo divisions with those at the top-earning millions per year while those below earnings ranges from $17,000 to $15,000 thereby making the lower-ranked ones to serve the high ranking ones

What major assumption underlying the first sentence in the declaration of independence
Molodets [167]

The major assumption in the first sentence in the Declaration of Independence was the "all men were created equal".

This obviously wasn't the case because slavery was still in full swing; therefore, what was meant by it is that all WHITE men were created equal.

Which sentence has an awkward shift in voice ?
Naddik [55]

The correct answer is A. We practiced for the debate and many arguments were rehearsed.

As you can see in this sentence, in the first part the pronoun we is used, and in the latter part, that pronoun just disappears and the sentence suddenly becomes passive rather than active. The shift isn't done properly - it is rather awkward. The other options are consistent - they use only one voice rather than two (like in sentence A).
