P=2x+2y, y=(p-2x)/2

a=xy, using y found above in this equation gives you:

a=(px-2x^2)/2  we are told a=12 and p=16 so

12=(16x-2x^2)/2

24=16x-2x^2

2x^2-16x+24=0

2x^2-12x-4x+24=0

2x(x-6)-4(x-6)=0

(2x-4)(x-6)=0

2(x-2)(x-6)=0

So the table is 2 ft by 6 ft.

Hawick is 1515 miles south of Abbotsford, and Kelso is 1717 miles east of Abbotsford. What is the distance from Hawick to Kelso?
Mashcka [7]

Answer:

As per the statement:

Hawick is 15 miles south of Abbotsford, and Kelso is 17 miles east of Abbotsford.

Let  H represents  Hawick , A represents Abbotsford and K represents Kelso

See the diagram as shown below:

Distance of AH = 15 miles

Distance of AK = 17 miles.

We have to find the distance HK:

Using Pythagoras theorem;

\text{Hypotenuse side}^2 = \text{Adjacent side}^2 + \text{opposite side}^2

then;

\text{HK}^2 = 15^2+17^2 = 225 + 289 = 514

or

HK = \sqrt{514} =22.671581 miles.

Therefore, the distance from Hawick to Kelso( to the nearest tenth place) is 22.6 miles

The temperature, T, of a given mass of gas varies inversely with its Volume,V. The temperature of 98 cm ³ of a certain gas is 28
Naily [24]

Answer:

T₂ = 421.4 K

Step-by-step explanation:

The temperature, T, of a given mass of gas varies inversely with its Volume,V.

T\propto \dfrac{1}{V}\\\\V_1T_1=V_2T_2

We have,

V₁ = 98 cm³, T₁ = 28° C = (28+273) K = 301 K

V₂ = 70 cm₃

We need to find the new temperature of the gas. Using the above relation to find T₂.

T_2=\dfrac{V_1T_1}{V_2}\\\\T_2=\dfrac{98\times 301}{70}\\\\T_2=421.4\ K

Hence, the required temperature of the gas is 421.4 K.
