What was the reason for the Sugar Act of 1764? (4 points)
antiseptic1488 [7]

Answer: The reason for the Sugar Act, also known as the Plantation Act or The American Revenue Act of 1764. Was a modified version of the Sugar and Molasses Act of 1733. Lowered the taxes on imported sugar and molasses from 6 pence to 3 pence per gallon.

Explanation: The 1733 Sugar and Molasses act imposed a 6 pence tax on all imported sugar and molasses, however many businessmen would find loopholes and ways around paying these taxes which in turn hurt British businesses. So Parliament passed the Sugar act which lowered the tax from 6 pence per gallon to 3 pence per gallon. However the tax would be more strictly enforced.
