Explanation: In the given excerpt we can see the first and the last lines of the poem by Rukeyser, these lines read "I live in the first century of world wars", and she repeated it in the last line, this is because she hopes that world wars will come to an end, she expresses that idea by emphasizing that she lived in the first century of those wars, as a way to say that it might not be the only century of world wars but she hopes it is.
