The pressure exerted by the Montgomery Improvement Association was economic. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery city bus to a white passenger. A one-day Montgomery bus boycott was planned for Monday, December 5. The boycott was so successful it was decided that the boycott would be continued. The MIA executive committee prepared the demands of the boycott and came to an agreement that the boycott would continue until the demands were met.
