Answer:

2. The American Revolution and the French Revolution shared many similar goals.

3. B. Problem and solution

4. A. A footnote includes a reference to an outside source.

5. A. Compare and contrast

6. B. School lunches can be healthier and tastier with just a few simple changes.

7. A. Main Ideas

8. C. Highlighting

9. C. Outlining

10. C. Journaling

Explanation:

2. If he is writing a compare and contrast essay about these two Revolutions, then the first thesis would be good to use because it establishes a basis for comparison. He can then, in his essay, state what those comparisons were.

3. The passage discusses a problem that middle-school students are experiencing and then proposes a solution to their problem.

4. Footnotes and endnotes are both found at the bottom of the page and use a superscript within the text. Endnotes provide additional comments about a source. I know this because I used Turabian/Chicago formatting for one of my classes.

5. Reyhan is pointing out the similarities and differences between Earth's climate 100 years ago and today.

6. The changes would provide a solution to the problem of school lunches not being all that healthy or tasty.

7. This is the one I'm least sure of, so I apologize if my answer is incorrect. But I put A because typically, you want to take in the main ideas of a text in addition to its key details.

8. I would say this because she can quickly highlight key points (thus allowing her to engage with the textbook) and easily go back to them (because they are highlighted and easy to notice).

9. If Lola uses an outline, that would be the most structured and sequenced way of taking notes while she reads the text because she can organize her ideas.

10. Hilde should use journaling to quickly jot down her thoughts and reflections to the text.

Read the sentence below about the Chicago fire of 1871. Schaffer told someone else to strike the wrong alarm box and that caused
Lostsunrise [7]

Schaffer mistakenly told his assistant to strike alarm Box 342, and as a result, firefighters were directed to an incorrect location during the Chicago fire of 1871.

This is the best example of adding concrete details. It specifically says which alarm box Schaffer told his assistant. The original sentence makes it seem as the miscommunication was the big problem. While it was a problem, the fact that the firefighters went to the incorrect location is really the reason the Chicago fire of 1871 was so devastating. Including these details makes the writing much clearer and easier for the reader to follow.
