A direct Stafford Loan is a student loan that is given by the government to undergraduate and graduate students with low interest rates and that are paid back after the student graduates. In order to receive this loan, the student needs to have a high school diploma or a GED certificate, have a valid Social Security Number and for the subsidized loan, he/she should demonstrate financial need. However, money for the initial repayment is not required as the student will have to pay the loan after finishing the program.
