My advice is try not to be TOO specific. It’s a fine line, but you need to make sure to be detailed but not OVER-detailed. Try to keep your sentences from getting too long, otherwise you’ll end up rambling (and overwriting). I think Mr. Underwood compared Tom Robinson to mockingbird in the book to kill a mockingbird because Mr. Underwood says it is a sin to kill cripples, which is similar to Atticus saying that it is a sin to kill mockingbird, making Tom Robinson a symbolic Mockingbird.
