Answer:

When the waters of the river begin to rise, at some point an entire house floats past the island. Huck and Jim climb on it to see what they can get out of there. They find a dead man in a corner of the house and Jim goes to examine the corpse. He recognizes Huck's father but carefully refuses to tell him whose body he is.
