Chemical bonds found in living systems and other organisms do not normally include as many ionic bonds, than that of covalent ones. Since living organisms and beings are composed primarily of carbon, most of the resulting molecules that compose and play vital roles in the organisms life are covalent compounds, molecules that can undergo covalent bonding with carbon, oxygen and the rest.
