Problem-solution
Instead of a typical problem-solution, this paragraph is more like 'mystery-explanation', which is a type of problem-solution. The first few sentences detail the problem, the fact that the rocks mysteriously exist. Then, the next few sentences show how scientists have thought of possible explanations or 'solutions' for how they got to be that way.
