You think that your niece is a very beautiful 15-year-old. at 5'5", she weighs 130 pounds, which her physician says puts her in

the middle of the healthy bmi range. however, you have noticed that she has become a very picky eater and rarely finishes her meals. based on what you've read about adolescent eating habits and weight, why might she be doing this?

At fifteen years old her body is starting to look more like a womans body rather than a child. Often when that starts to happen girls start thinking they are fat beccause they don't look like runway models that are stick thin with no curves. So, she is probably trying to lose weight because she probably thinks 130lbs. is fat.

What effect does the addition of surfactant have on the airflow? How well did the results compare with your prediction?
MissTica

Answer:

Surfactant increases airflow. It has this effect on airflow because it reduces resistance to lung inflation. Airflow increased as predicted.

Explanation:

Pulmonary surfactant is a complex mixture of lipids and proteins secreted by the Type II alveolar cells. The major component of surfactant, dipalmitoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC), is an amphiphatic phospholipid. The main function of the pulmonary surfactant is to reduce the surface tension at the air/liquid interface in the lungs by forming lining layer between the aqueous airway liquid and the inspired air. prevents alveolar and airway collapse at end-expiration and thus allows cyclic ventilation of the lungs. It decreases surface tension in the alveoli making it easier for the alveoli to increase surface area for gas exchange. By lowering alveolar surface tension, pulmonary surfactant provides two important benefits:

(1) it increases pulmonary compliance, reducing the work of inflating the lungs; and

(2) it reduces the lungs’ tendency to recoil, so they do not collapse as readily.

Answer:

Extraversion

Explanation:

The Five-Factor Model of personality is a model of the structure of personality according to which human personality can be described using five broad dimensions: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness.

The main characteristics of the dimensions are:

 • Extraversion: Outgoing, socially confident behavior. Extroverts are sociable, talkative and enjoy being the center of attention. Introverts are more quiet and prefer to be on their own.
 • Agreeableness: Individuals who score highly on agreeableness are friendly and co-operative, they are trusting of others and are more altruistic and sympathetic. People who score low on this dimension are less concerned with pleasing other people or making friends, they tend to be more suspicious and are less charitable, they are also competitive and stubborn.
 • Conscientiousness: People who are conscientious are more aware of their actions and the consequences of their behavior than people who are unconscientious. They feel a sense of responsibility towards other people and are careful with their duties, they will be concerned about tidiness, punctuality and hard work. People who score low on this dimension are less careful and are less concerned about tidiness and punctuality.
 • Neuroticism: People with high neuroticism are persistent worriers. They are fearful and often feel anxious, over-thinking their problems focusing on the negative aspects of them. They tend to become frustrated and angry if things don't go as they wish. People who score low are less preoccupied and are able to remain more calm under stressful situations.
 • Openness: Willingness to try new activities. People with higher levels of openness enjoy artistic and cultural experiences and are more open to unfamiliar cultures and customs, they are imaginative. People with low levels of openness are wary of uncertainty and the unknown and feel uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations and prefer familiar environments.

In this example, we can see that Liz is very friendly and she invites friends over for parties every weekend that she is free and she's also involved in other social activities. We can see that Liz is friendly, sociable and likes being the center of attention. Thus, this aspect of Liz'z personality is best described as extraversion.
