(Suburban and rural criminals are strongly deterred from their potential crimes by the presence of armed citizens.)

Fatherless children with unstable home environments have a much higher likelihood of turning to crime, joining gangs, etc. American cities skew the statistics for the country as a whole — but if you take the cities OUT of the statistics, then America is one of the safest places in the world.
