Heart rate is controlled by the two branches of the autonomic (involuntary) nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) releases the hormones (catecholamines - epinephrine and norepinephrine) to accelerate the heart rate. The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) releases the hormone acetylcholine to slow the heart rate. Such factors as stress, caffeine, and excitement may temporarily accelerate your heart rate, while meditating or taking slow, deep breaths may help to slow your heart rate.

Rus_ich [418]

Answer:

Biologists can grow specific plants to detoxify an area contaminated with heavy-metal pollution using the method of Bioremediation.

To rid an area of mosquitoes, biologists introduced a species of fish into bodies of water that feed on the mosquito larvae. This method is an example of Biological Augmentation.

Explanation:

Bioremediation can be described as a process which uses plants or microorganisms to detoxify contaminants that are present in an area. The enzymes of a plant or animal tend to break down the contaminants and hence, we can make an area rid of contaminants in this way.

Biological augmentation can be described as a method by which organisms such as bacteria are introduced in an area to get rid of wastes.

Your answer would be C because A affects the natural environment and can cause harm to it, B would affect the surrounding animal population and cause imbalances in biodiversity if they are not able to eat the foods they are used to, and D is not much of a benefit since you are losing the flavor that is naturally in the plants.

Answer:

mRNA: A-U-G-C-A-U-U-A

Explanation:

Given DNA template: T-A-C-G-C-T-A-A-T

Newly transcribed mRNA: A-U-G-C-A-U-U-A

Transcription is a process that uses DNA template strand to make RNA strands. The process occurs in nucleus. The nucleotide sequence of DNA template is always complimentary to its respective RNA sequence.

Here, thymine of DNA template strand pairs with adenine of newly formed RNA. Adenine of DNA template would pair with uracil of RNA. Guanine of DNA template pairs with cytosine.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is an illness caused by a coronavirus. Symptoms, including a high fever, headaches, and

Answer:

lytic, because of the quick onset of symptoms after infection

Explanation:

As seen in the question above, the SARS virus tends to develop symptoms very quickly when it is infecting a person. This speed in the development of symptoms is a characteristic of the lytic cycle, in relation to the reproductive cycle of viruses. This is because in the lytic cycle, a virus can infect many cells at once, which accelerates the development of the disease. This cycle allows the virus to use all of the cell's biological machinery to reproduce more copies of the virus. When these copies are ready, the virus causes the destruction of the host cell and the release of new viruses to other cells, where the whole process will be repeated. This is all done very quickly.

The lysogenic cycle does not cause the rapid infection of thousands of cells, since it is necessary that there is an adaptation between the DNA of the cell and the DNA of the virus. This slows down the infection process and, therefore, symptoms appear more slowly.
