Compare Dante’s ideas about justice to ideas about justice in contemporary America. In what ways have our ideas about how to add
Firdavs [7]
In modern America, we do not punish immoral behavior. We have a judicial system that addresses illegal behavior, but illegal and immoral are not necessary the same thing. For example, committing adultery is an immoral act but not an illegal one.

Only behavior that breaks the law can be punished; these punishments, furthermore, must not be "cruel and unusual." Dante's punishments, on the other hand, would definitely be considered cruel and unusual by modern American standards.

Today, we punish immoral (but not illegal) behavior by public shaming. That is, a woman who has been cheated on will often take to social media to publicly shame her husband. By bad behavior "going viral," people are punished for bad behavior outside a formal punishment. It should be noted, however, that public shaming might be considered cruel and unusual, so Dante might just have approved!

Does anybody know the answer key to the CommonLit, "The Life of Julius Caesar."?
lisabon 2012 [21]

Answer:

According to Shakespeare as the author of this play, He portrays Caesar as an ambitious and loyal man. He is a prisoner of his principles and always fixed to the laws of public institutions. He was charged by his conspirators as someone whose judgment is delusional because he looks for absolute power over Rome which was not true. His faith in his principles and obedience to the law did not allow him to quit going to the Senate. He does not pay heed to his wife's dream because he was a man of his words.

Explanation:

Caesar's aura and public image was immortal to him and he always has a deep faith on his capabilities. The ideas of Caesar which were conflicting to Rome powerful elite made sense by the end of the play in Act V when Brutus finally accepted that Caeser's power is beyond his grave and producing misfortune for them.

In your opinion, is the “Modern” state of human creation (science, technology, intelligence, etc.) beneficial or detrimental to
Elza [17]

Evolution of science, technology and intelligence has both improved and worsen human life. When properly used, science and technology have always been very good tools for advances in industry, everyday comforts, health, and education, thus giving us a better quality of life.

All these improvements are linked to each other, creating a chain of benefits for civilization. If we think of life expectancy, for example, we can realize our ancestors used to live less time, this is because medicine has significantly evolved thanks to science and technology. Another example is communication, nowadays we can instantly get in touch with a person who is miles away thanks to the creation of cellphones and computers.

But, when improperly used, science, technology and intelligence can be destructive. This was the case with WWII, in which technology and science were employed to build weapons of mass destruction, as the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It is also true that our planet is deteriorating due to these activities, and if somebody has to take responsiblity for it, it is us, but only us together can help the planet get better. The following quote from the novel by Mary Shelley shares the same ideal:

"It is true, we shall be monsters, cut off from all the world; but on that account we shall be more attached to one another.”
