Gold was discovered in Cherokee lands in 1828 and by 1829-1830 there were thousands of white miners and gold-seekers who had taken over most of that land. By 1830, Andrew Jackson had ordered the removal on the Cherokee mostly in part due to the fact that gold was on their lands.
