From being a slave to being a graduate from Tuskegee college, in Alabama, George Washington Carver developed many ways to use peanuts to help crops in the southern states and taught southern farmers new agriculture techniques to improve the soil.

He taught southern farmers new techniques of crop rotation and fertilization to improve their crops. He also develops techniques to use chemistry in finding different uses of agricultural surpluses. Some people called this "chemurgy."
