The United States bought 828,000 square miles of land from France in 1803. The French controlled this region from 1699 until 1762 when it became Spanish property because France gave it to Spain as a present, since they were allies. But under Napoleon Bonaparte, France revived the aspirations to build an empire in North America so the territory was taken back in 1800. However, those big plans were not meant to be because Napoleon needed to concentrate on preparations for war with the British Empire and so the land was sold to the United States. The price was 15 million dollars.

The purchased territory included the whole of today’s Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska, parts of Minnesota and Louisiana west of Mississippi River, including New Orleans, big parts of North and northeastern New Mexico, South Dakota, northern Texas, some parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado as well as portions of Canadian provinces Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Select the correct answer. Which Japanese-occupied territory did the Soviet Union invade when it declared a war on Japan in 1945
Gnom [1K]

On August 8, 1945, the Soviet Union officially declares war on Japan, pouring more than 1 million Soviet soldiers into Japanese-occupied Manchuria, northeastern China, to take on the 700,000-strong Japanese army.

The Soviet invasion was the fulfillment of Stalin's promises made to British and American leaders at the Tehran and Yalta conferences to join the war against Japan after the defeat of Nazi Germany. The Soviet Union officially declares war on Japan and sends over one million Soviet soldiers to Japanese-occupied Manchuria in northeastern China to fight against a 700,000-strong Japanese army.

After the Cold War, Russia is effectively the most important internationally recognized successor state of the Soviet Union. Meanwhile, Ukraine has declared by law the successor state of both the Ukrainian SSR and the USSR, which are contested over former Soviet-owned property.
